language arts education endorsement. Specific content areas include:
(1) Language arts -
composition/grammar: 18 semester hours with at least six in upper division
coursework, to include a language arts methodology course, reading, the
structure and usage of grammar in written language, the purpose and form of
written communications to a variety of audiences, and advanced composition. The
endorsement may be added with either coursework or the passage of the
designated state test;
(2) Language arts -
drama/theater: The endorsement may be added by the passage of the designated
state test without the verification of coursework;
(3) Language arts -
literature: 18 semester hours with at least six in upper division coursework,
to include a language arts methodology course, American literature, analysis,
and response to a variety of genre, multicultural authors, and audience ages
and teaching of reading. The endorsement may be added with either coursework or
the passage of the designated state test;
(4) Language arts - mass
communications: The endorsement may be added by the passage of the designated
state test without the verification of coursework;
(5) Language arts - 18
semester hours with at least six in upper division coursework, to include a
language arts methodology course, speech/debate: theories of communication,
function of the individual, language acquisition, and context variables, such
as setting, purpose, audience, and subject. The endorsement may be added with
either coursework or the passage of the designated state test.
