The meeting was called to order by Senator Deb Soholt, Chair. She introduced LRC staff and set
forth her expectations as committee chair.
Ms. Kim Malsam-Rysdon, Secretary, Department of Health, and key staff presented a power point
department overview (Handout #1). She reviewed the department purpose, organization, and plan.
Lon Kightlinger, State Epidemiologist, presented Key Health Indicators; Colleen Winter, Director
of Family & Community Health, detailed the DOH Dashbooard Indicators; and Tom Martinec,
Deputy Secretary, briefly reviewed DOH 2017 legislation.
Ms. Lynne Valenti, Secretary, Department of Social Services, and key staff presented a powerpoint
department overview (Handout #2). She summarized the department purpose and organization and
reviewed the Divisions of Economic Assistance, Child Support, Child Care Protection Services, and
Adult Services and Aging. Ms. Amy Iversen-Pollreisz, Deputy Secretary, reported on the Division
of Behavioral Health and reviewed department initiatives regarding Behavioral Health, Criminal
Justice, and Juvenile Justice along with the Meth Awareness Campaign. Ms. Brenda Tidball-Zeltinger, Division Director, Medical Services, provided an update on Medicaid Enrollment,
Expenditurers, Federal Policy Changes, and Opportunities for Reform.
